Hoag Hospital, Irvine | Emergency Department

This Design-Build project consists of 13,500 sq ft of ground-up, new construction addition and 6,500 sq ft remodel of the existing emergency department includes 38 new treatment spaces including 32 private treatment rooms, 4 Fast-Track treatment spaces, and 2 Trauma rooms. We delivered this project in a complicated phasing plan allowing the Emergency Department to remain operational and licensed. We also changed during the project and added three AIIR rooms, so the Hospital was better prepared for future possible impacts of communicable diseases.

The new addition included 3 new rooftop air handlers, multiple independent exhaust systems, all critical utilities were upgraded including domestic water, heating hot water, chilled water, electrical, emergency power, and expanded medical gases were fed from an existing OSHPD-1 facility. All critical utility tie-ins and shutdowns were coordinated by the construction team so not to cause any utility interruptions. During the entire project, the hospital’s emergency room remained open and saw over 100 patients per day.
